The SCHÖNES LEBEN Group continues its course of growth. In 2018, the Group acquired the Southern German care specialists compassio, the Gut Köttenich Group in North Rhine-Westphalia and A&R with locations in Schleswig-Holstein and Bavaria. SCHÖNES LEBEN is now acquiring MEDIKO Pflege- und Gesundheitszentren GmbH (“MEDIKO Group”), thereby creating a strong presence and base in Northern and Western Germany.

The MEDIKO Group, based in Winsen (Aller), with its very new real estate portfolio, currently operates 20 senior citizens’ residences in Lower Saxony, Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia and is part of the family-run LINDHORST Group as a regional nursing services provider. The facilities of the MEDIKO Group are characterized by their exclusive interior and exterior architecture with the look and feel of a hotel as well as high quality standards and innovative nursing and support concepts. The range of services provided by the MEDIKO Group includes inpatient care, adult day care and assisted living. Hence, it complements the nursing home business segment of the SCHÖNES LEBEN Group with its 20 residences.

Furthermore, an additional 18 facilities nationwide will commence operation over the next few years. These facilities are currently being built by the LINDHORST Group for the SCHÖNES LEBEN Group and partly for the MEDIKO Group, which is also part of the transaction. Mr. Alexander Lindhorst will remain closely associated with the company not only as lessor, but also two options: by providing financing or as a shareholder. In this way, SCHÖNES LEBEN and the Lindhorst Group ensure a maximum degree of continuity and continue to expand their partnership. “With the acquisition of the MEDIKO Group, we are gaining a quality-oriented family business that has grown organically since 2007 and has developed and earned a first-class reputation in recent years through high-quality, modern facilities and the provision of excellent care,” says Marc Hildebrand, CEO of the SCHÖNES LEBEN Group. “However, this investment is not just an important milestone in our further corporate development in Northern and Western Germany. We are looking forward to an extremely dedicated team of managers and employees who strongly identify with the MEDIKO Group. Together we want to expand the range of nursing and innovative services for the elderly in the coming years.”

With the acquisition of the MEDIKO Group, the SCHÖNES LEBEN Group is taking a further step toward creating an outstanding company for geriatric care, new forms of residential living and innovative services for people over the age of 65. “Our goal is to become the most modern provider of services for the elderly. With this in mind, we want to set new market standards and trends in the areas of nursing, modern accommodations and a full range of services,” explains Marc Hildebrand. The services provided by SCHÖNES LEBEN are not only aimed at people in need of nursing care, but also at people after retirement who want to lead an active life.

The transaction is subject to the approval of the German Federal Cartel Office. It was agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
